Dearest, darlingest readers, I write to you with news. My teenage taste has received the ultimate vindication and validation. Criterion just added “Party Girl” to its streaming service.
For those unfamiliar: the 1995 movie stars Parker Posey as the titular Party Girl who has to work in a library (where her mean boss is her dead mother’s best friend, naturally).
It’s an extremely silly movie, to be frank. The reason to watch “Party Girl” is not the plot. Nor the character development. The cinematography and the dialogue aren’t draws, either. It’s mostly the fashion and the music that landed the movie a spot on Criterion. But if you enjoy even half of what I post here, consider “Party Girl” required viewing.
I first saw “Party Girl” during a semester of college when I was interning for a ~lifestyle~ website in Manhattan and maybe lied about my age so I could attend fashion week parties and drink free booze. (I was 19 lol) This was arguably one of the busiest times in my life (was also working, TAing, going to school, trying to be a person, etc.) and I was, arguably, depressed.
